Full Description
The Music Man StingRay 5 Bass possesses a select hardwood body and maple neck to deliver a warm thick tone with melodic highs and firm lows. Its maple fingerboard and gunstock oil and hand-rubbed special wax blend provides a smoother play. The StingRay Bass contains a Music Man humbucker with Alnico magnets, 3-way level pickup selector and a 3-band active preamp to give you control over the treble, bass and midrange to allow for alterations to the tonality to suit your playing style. With its black pickguard, graphite acrylic resin coated electronics shielding, chrome hardware and with a black high gloss finish the StingRay 5 from Music Man offers a stylish instrument with exceptional build quality and tonality.
Select Hardwood Body & Select Maple Neck
The Music Man StingRay 5 Bass Guitar is built from a select hardwood body and a maple neck to produce a strong, aggressive tone with exceptional sustain and deliver a powerful low end growl. The highs produced are melodic with a sharp sizzle, its mids are snappy and its lows are firm. When picked aggressively the StingRay 5 produces an energetic edged tone whilst still being able to have excellent clarity when picked more softly.
3-Band Active Preamp EQ
The 3-band active EQ allows for more control over the dynamics of the bass's tone with the three EQ control pots. With the standard volume control, the 3-band EQ is also configured with controls for treble, bass, and midrange to allow for tonal adjustments that will suit your playing style and to ensure that you have a fantastic tone before the sound even reaches your amplifier.
The StingRay
Music Man's StingRay was first created in 1976 by Joe Fender and Tom Walker with the help of Sterling Ball who was a beta tester for the StingRay. Although it was physically similar to a Fender precision bass, the StingRay was considered a highly innovative instrument and since then has been a favourite for several influential bassists such as Louis Johnson, Flea, Bernard Edwards and Guy Pratt.
About Music Man
Music Man (originally Tri-Sonix) was founded in 1971 by Forrest White and Tom Walker with the help of Leo Fender, who at the time was a silent partner due to a 10-year non-compete clause he was tied to. In 1974 when they officially became Music Man, the company produced its first product, an amplifier designed by Leo Fender and Tom Walker called the "Sixty Five" and a year later Leo Fender was named president of the company. It was in 1976 when Music Man started to produce guitars and basses in the form of the StingRay 1 Guitar and StingRay Bass and the company was later bought to Ernie Ball in 1984.
